BYD's 1,582-HP Denza Z: Everything We Know About the Four-Seat Supercar
BYD's 1,582-hp flagship now has prices in China and the UK and deliveries starting late 2026 — but a US launch remains unconfirmed. Here is every verified number.
BYD's supercar program is no longer a concept-stand exercise. The Denza Z — the first production supercar from BYD's premium Denza brand — now has pre-sale prices in China, full retail pricing in the UK, and a delivery window that opens before the end of 2026. Our correspondents shot both body styles, the hardtop Coupe and the open-top Spider, on the Denza stand at the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show in late August, where the car pulled some of the biggest crowds of the event.
The headline numbers: 1,582 hp (1,180 kW) from three electric motors, 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 2.25 seconds for the Coupe, and seating for four. The biggest open question is no longer the price. It's whether the Z will ever be offered in the United States.
What is the Denza Z?
The Z is a two-door, four-seat electric supercar built on BYD's e3 platform, the same architecture family that underpins the Denza Z9 executive cars. Denza showed the car as a near-production concept at Auto Shanghai in April 2025. The Spider convertible made its show debut at Auto China in Beijing in April 2026, and the Coupe and the track-focused Racing version had their world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
Chengdu marked the first time Chinese show-goers could see the Coupe and the Spider side by side on a major auto show stand — and judging by the permanent ring of phones around the display, Denza's home audience is paying attention.
How much power does the Denza Z have?
All three variants use the same tri-motor layout: a 500-kW motor on the front axle and two 340-kW units at the rear, for a combined 1,582 hp (1,180 kW) and 915 lb-ft (1,240 Nm) of torque. The two rear motors are controlled independently, which enables torque vectoring and, per Denza's launch materials, independent rear steering effects. Chinese regulatory filings list curb weight at 4,894–5,049 pounds (2,220–2,290 kg) depending on variant.
The Coupe accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (0–100 km/h) in a claimed 2.25 seconds, the Spider in 2.3 seconds. The Racing version, on optional semi-slick tires, cuts that to 1.96 seconds and tops out at 217 mph (350 km/h). The Coupe and Spider are capped at 186 mph (300 km/h).
How much does the Denza Z cost?
In China, pre-sales opened in July with the Coupe at 680,000 yuan (roughly $100,000 at the time of the announcement), the Spider at 780,000 yuan, and the Racing at 1.18 million yuan. Final prices are due at the official Chinese launch in the fourth quarter.
In the UK — the first confirmed export market — Denza has announced retail pricing of £142,900 for the Coupe, £159,900 for the Spider, and £172,900 for the Racing. There is no US price, because there is no US launch — nothing has been announced for North America. For context, the UK Coupe price converted to about $191,000 at announcement: four-seat packaging with four-figure horsepower at a price point where established 2+2 sports cars offer a fraction of the output. In my view, that gap — not the top speed — is the number European rivals should be studying.
When does the Denza Z go on sale?
China gets the car first: pre-sales are running now, and the official on-sale date is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. In the UK, reservations open in October, with first customer deliveries targeted before the end of the year, alongside the opening of Denza's first UK retail sites. Other markets have not been confirmed.
Design and the four-seat cabin
The Z was developed under BYD design chief Wolfgang Egger. It measures 188.2 inches (4,780 mm) long and 78.3 inches (1,990 mm) wide on a 109.4-inch (2,780 mm) wheelbase — notably longer than a Porsche 911, and the reason the packaging works. All three variants are homologated in China as four-seaters.
That second row is the car's quietest headline. Genuine four-seat supercars are rare in any propulsion type, and rarer still with a folding soft top. What strikes me, having seen our Chengdu photo set, is how undramatic the packaging looks from outside — the Z reads as a low, long GT rather than a cab-forward EV wedge.
The production body stays remarkably close to the 2025 concept, which already appeared production-ready when it was first shown. The Racing version stretches the body with aero addenda; the Coupe and Spider stay clean.
What we don't know yet
- US availability. No North American launch, pricing, or homologation plans have been announced. The UK is the only confirmed market outside China.
- Official battery capacity and range. Denza has not published pack size or any certified range figures — no EPA, WLTP, or CLTC numbers so far.
- Final Chinese prices. Current figures are pre-sale prices; they can shift at the Q4 launch.
- Exact delivery dates. "Fourth quarter" in China and "late 2026" in the UK are windows, not dates.
- The Special Edition. Denza has confirmed a variant with more than 1,900 hp is in development, but its production status, price, and timing remain open.
What's next
Three dates to watch: the official Chinese launch in the fourth quarter, which will lock in final domestic prices; the opening of UK reservations in October; and any announcement extending the Z beyond China and the UK. We will update this page as each of those lands.
