BMW's Electric iX4 Coupe-SUV Arrives in March at $66,200 — and a 603-HP M60 Follows

The iX4 50 xDrive costs $4,700 more than the iX3 it's based on, and its 428-mile range is still BMW's own estimate, not an EPA rating.

BMW's third Neue Klasse model has a U.S. price five months before it arrives. The iX4 50 xDrive, a coupe-roofed spin-off of the iX3, will start at $66,200 plus destination and handling when it launches in March 2027.

That is $4,700 more than the iX3 50 xDrive already in U.S. showrooms, which opened at $61,500 plus a $1,350 destination fee. BMW has not said what the fee will be on the iX4.

What the extra $4,700 buys

Mechanically, very little changes. The iX4 uses the same dual-motor layout as the iX3 50 xDrive, with the same 463 hp, and BMW quotes a 4.7-second run to 60 mph. Top speed is 130 mph, peak torque is 475 lb-ft, and the SUV can tow up to 4,400 pounds with the optional hitch.

The footprint is shared, too: 188.3 inches long on a 114.1-inch wheelbase, exactly like the iX3. What differs is the roofline, which drops to 63.3 inches and ends in a standard rear spoiler. BMW claims a drag coefficient of 0.23.

Part of the premium is equipment. Every iX4 comes with the M Sport package, 20-inch M wheels, and a full-length panoramic glass roof. On the iX3, BMW's U.S. price list charges $2,500 for the M Sport package and $1,000 for the glass roof as a stand-alone option. If the package contents line up, the coupe shape itself costs closer to $1,200.

428 miles, with an asterisk

BMW says the iX4 50 xDrive will travel up to 428 miles on a charge. That is not an EPA rating. The company's release calls it a preliminary estimate from its own testing using EPA procedures, and no official rating has been published.

The iX3 shows how to read the words "up to." Its EPA-rated 434 miles applies only to the no-cost 20-inch summer tires; on the standard all-season tires the same SUV is rated at 383 miles. BMW has not broken out iX4 range by wheel and tire.

Charging matches the rest of the family: an 800-volt system that accepts up to 400 kW, enough, BMW estimates, to add 184 miles in 10 minutes. Home charging tops out at 15.4 kW, and bidirectional charging is built in, as it is across BMW's Gen6 battery generation. Hands-free highway driving at up to 85 mph is an option.

The 603-hp version comes later

The range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive makes 603 hp and 645 lb-ft and, by BMW's estimate, reaches 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. It adds 21-inch wheels, M Sport brakes, and an electronically controlled rear differential.

Timing is vague. BMW says M60 production starts in March 2027 and that the market launch "will take place in stages"; elsewhere in the same release it says "later in 2027." There is no price. An iX3 M60 xDrive with the same output was announced the same day, with U.S. orders opening at the end of January 2027.

Where it lands

The gas-powered X4 is already gone: a BMW spokesperson told BMWBLOG in January that the last one was built in November 2025. BMW's U.S. release does not call the iX4 its replacement, but the new model fills the same slot in the lineup and will be built alongside the iX3 in Debrecen, Hungary.

Against the obvious rival, the price looks sharp. Porsche lists the 2027 Macan 4 Electric from $84,000 before delivery, with a range of up to 308 miles and 402 hp on overboost. That leaves the iX4 $17,800 cheaper on paper with a 120-mile range advantage, provided BMW's estimate survives EPA certification.

Still missing: the destination fee, the EPA rating, the M60's price, and the date order books open. The iX4 now joins our tracker of every EV due in the U.S. in 2027 as one of the few with both a month and a price attached.
