Hyundai's CRATER Off-Road Concept Is Now Drivable — in The Crew Motorfest

Hyundai's boxy off-road show car arrives in Ubisoft's open-world racer with a new winch mechanic, the first Korean-brand vehicle in the game and a preview of where XRT is headed.

Hyundai's CRATER Concept never got a production green light, but as of this week you can drive one. The boxy off-road show car has joined The Crew Motorfest, Ubisoft Ivory Tower's open-world racer, as part of the game's off-road-themed Season 11 update, which went live on October 7.

Both companies say it's the first vehicle from a Korean automaker officially featured in the game. For Hyundai, the bigger point is the badge CRATER previews: the concept is a design study for the next phase of XRT, the off-road trim family that just spread to the all-new fifth-generation Tucson, including a tougher XRT PRO version.

More than a garage slot

Season 11 adds a winch mechanic. Players can use it to pull themselves out of trouble or drag fallen trees and debris off the trail. The CRATER can also be customized, shown off in the community-driven Custom Show mode, and raced on player-built courses made with the TrackForge editor.

Hyundai and the studio are also lining up gaming influencers for in-game reviews of the car, a dedicated off-road course built in TrackForge, and live races where regular players can line up against the creators.

The timing fits the season. According to Ubisoft, Season 11's headline addition is a free new island, Kauai, built around off-road exploration, alongside 21 new vehicles, including the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. The game also arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 today, which widens the audience for the tie-in.

From an LA show stand to Hawaiian trails

CRATER was designed at the Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California, and made its debut at AutoMobility LA in November 2025. The compact monocoque concept rides on 18-inch wheels with 33-inch off-road tires. Its matte "Dune Gold" paint, roof-mounted light bar, and limb-riser cables running from the hood to the roof all carry over to the game model.

The LA reveal left out powertrain details. Hyundai's latest release calls CRATER an electric SUV concept, but the company still hasn't published any specs.

Hyundai is no stranger to gaming. It says it was the first global automaker to launch an official experience on Roblox, back in 2021, and it has since appeared in Fortnite and Rocket League through an Epic Games tie-in with the FIFA World Cup 2026, as well as in Top Eleven and Asphalt Legends. Other carmakers are chasing the same audience from the opposite direction: Volkswagen is bringing phone-controlled games into its US cars.

What's next

Hyundai says more of its models will join the game in a phased rollout, with more vehicles and brand content planned for future seasons. It hasn't named them yet.

The game deal also doesn't answer the question off-road fans care about most: whether CRATER will reach showrooms. Hyundai hasn't said. Until it does, the closest real-world idea in the same spirit is Scout's winch-equipped, trail-ready Traveler concept.
