GM Takes the 2027 Silverado and Sierra to Texas, the Truck Market It Can’t Lose
The next-generation pickups are on show in Dallas through October 18. GM cites $4.6 billion in Texas economic impact, though its Arlington plant builds SUVs, not trucks.

General Motors is using the State Fair of Texas to put its next-generation 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra in front of the buyers it needs most. Texas buys more full-size pickups than any other state, GM says, and Dallas is the Sierra's biggest market in the country.
Both trucks are on display at the Texas Auto Show at Fair Park through October 18, weeks before they reach dealers late this year. The Silverado is again the fair's official vehicle. We've already broken down the 2027 Silverado 1500 prices and trims, which start at $38,600 before destination.

What GM Is Showing
The light-duty trucks arrive with new 5.7L and 6.6L V8s, a diesel option, and more factory-lifted trims. The heavy-duty models add the new 8.3L Duramax diesel, an updated gas V8, electric power steering, and electronic brake boost.
Chevrolet is also running a ride-and-drive on and off pavement for visitors 18 and older. The cars on offer include the Silverado, the Equinox EV, and the Corvette Grand Sport.

"Texas is a proof market for trucks because customers expect one vehicle to work, tow, travel comfortably with family and perform when the road turns into a trail," said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet.
The Numbers Behind the Pitch
GM says it contributed $4.6 billion to the Texas economy in 2025 and employs more than 13,000 people in the state. It also counts hundreds of Chevrolet and GMC dealers there.
The timing suits the company. According to GM's announcement, the Sierra is on track for its second-best sales year ever, and the midsize Canyon just had its best quarter. That matches GM's third-quarter sales, in which light-duty full-size pickups rose 9%.
What the Announcement Leaves Out
GM points to 70 years of building vehicles in Arlington, where more than 1,350 roll off the line every day. None of them is a pickup. Arlington Assembly builds the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon, and the Cadillac Escalade.
That list is about to get shorter. GM said in July 2025 that Escalade production would move to Orion Assembly in Michigan in early 2027, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported. The same plant is due to start building light-duty Silverados and Sierras at that time. So the added truck capacity is going to Michigan, not to the state GM calls its top pickup market.
GM isn't alone in courting Texas, either. Ram signed five Texas Longhorns players in September as part of a season-long college football campaign.
What Comes Next
The fair, which draws more than 2 million visitors a year, runs through October 18. The 2027 Silverado and Sierra go on sale before the end of the year.
