Ram Chassis Cab Gets a Night Edition — and a Price Under $2,200
The blacked-out package costs $1,695 on Laramie and $2,195 on Big Horn, opens for orders in the fourth quarter, and debuts this week at the Farm Progress Show in Iowa.
Ram is extending its Night Edition appearance package to the trucks least likely to be bought for their looks. The 2027 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab will offer the blacked-out treatment on Big Horn and Laramie trims, priced at $2,195 and $1,695 respectively, with orders opening in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The package makes its public debut this week at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, which runs September 1–3. That choice of venue says a lot about who Ram expects to order it.
What the money buys
On both trims, the Night package replaces chrome and brightwork with black-painted wheels, black badging, gloss-black grille nostrils, and a sport hood with a center scoop and side vents. Big Horn trucks also gain a body-color grille surround, front bumper, fender flares, and door handles, plus front and rear park sensors. Laramie already includes those items as standard, which is why its package costs $500 less and adds gloss-black grille billets instead.
Big Horn buyers will need the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group to order the package. Ram hasn't said what those groups cost on the 2027 Chassis Cab. The Night Edition is available on both Regular Cab and Crew Cab bodies.
Why a work truck gets a styling package
Night has been part of Ram's heavy-duty pickup lineup since 2017, when it launched on the 2500 and 3500 at the Chicago Auto Show. What's new is offering it on chassis cabs, which leave the factory as a cab and bare frame and get their flatbeds, service bodies, or dump bodies from upfitters. Ram's pitch is that a service truck doubles as advertising for the business that owns it.
"The new Chassis Cab Night Edition is more than a tool; it's a rolling representation of their company," said Ram CEO Matt VanDyke.
The timing follows a substantial 2025 overhaul of the Chassis Cab that brought a new grille, standard LED headlights, an updated 6.7-liter Cummins with left- and right-side power take-off, and a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic on both engines. That refresh gave Ram a front end worth dressing up.
Ford is heading the same way. For 2027, its Super Duty Chassis Cab adds the Platinum trim to the F-350, F-450, and F-550 — luxury content rather than an appearance package, but the same bet that commercial buyers will pay for showroom presence.
Underneath, nothing changes
Powertrains carry over. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 makes 375 hp and 429 lb-ft, and the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel produces 360 hp and 800 lb-ft, both paired with the eight-speed automatic. A Ram 5500 with the Cummins tows up to 34,540 pounds, carries up to 11,490 pounds of payload, and is rated for 43,000 pounds combined. The 3500 diesel tops out at 25,590 pounds of towing.
Ram hasn't announced base pricing for the 2027 Chassis Cab. The 2025 lineup started at $49,285 including destination for a Ram 3500 with the 60-inch cab-to-axle frame. The trucks are built in Saltillo, Mexico, and Ram says Night Edition models will reach customers later in the year once ordering opens.
