Subaru's WRX GD25 Gets Pastrana's Rally Wing; BRZ ZC15 Capped at 300
The 350-car WRX GD25 adds a carbon STI wing, stiffer springs, and a strut bar. The 300-car BRZ ZC15 goes white and bronze. Pricing comes later.
Subaru's anniversary WRX is more than a paint job this time. The 2027 WRX GD25 adds a carbon rear wing shared with Travis Pastrana's rally car, retuned suspension, and extra bracing, while its sibling, the 2027 BRZ ZC15, is capped at just 300 cars.
Both cars were shown at Boxerfest in York, Pennsylvania, and Subaru published full details on September 28. The names revive the chassis codes of the first U.S.-market versions: GD for the WRX that arrived in 2002 and ZC for the original BRZ from 2012. Subaru hasn't tied either car to its STI comeback plans.
WRX GD25: wing, springs, and a strut bar
The GD25 comes only in World Rally Blue with gold 19-inch wheels, Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires, and uprated Brembo brakes behind gold calipers. The rear wing is a dry carbon fiber swan-neck piece from Subaru Tecnica International, and Subaru says it's the same part used on Pastrana's championship-winning WRX ARA25L.
Under the skin, stiffer springs work with recalibrated dampers, and a flexible strut tower bar sits under the hood. The drivetrain carries over: a 271-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four, all-wheel drive, and a six-speed manual, here with an STI short shifter. Inside are Recaro seats with black Ultrasuede inserts, red stitching, and an STI shift knob.
Subaru will build 350 of them, with deliveries due in summer 2027.
A bigger step than Series.Yellow
That hardware list is the real break from the formula we outlined in our preview. The 2026 WRX Series.Yellow, also limited to 350 cars, kept the tS trim's suspension and performance hardware unchanged and added Sunrise Yellow paint, matte black wheels, and yellow stitching. It sold for $45,995, just $1,000 more than the $44,995 WRX tS, according to Subaru's 2026 WRX pricing.
Subaru hasn't said which trim the GD25 starts from, or whether it keeps the tS's electronically adjustable dampers.
BRZ ZC15: white and bronze
The BRZ takes a lighter touch. It gets Ceramic White paint reserved for this edition, matte bronze wheels, bronze decals near the sills, and red Brembo calipers. Subaru says the white-and-bronze pairing echoes the 2020 BRZ tS.
Beyond that, the changes are a black decklid spoiler and a flexible V-bar under the hood. Power is unchanged: a 228-hp naturally aspirated 2.4-liter driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. The cabin pairs black leather-appointed seats with Bordeaux red inserts not offered on other BRZs, plus an STI aluminum-and-leather short shifter and a "ZC15" plaque.
At 300 units, the ZC15 is rarer than last year's 350-car BRZ Series.Yellow. Subaru says it arrives in early 2027.
What we don't know yet
Pricing and full specs will come closer to launch, Subaru says, with reservations opening later this year. For reference, the regular 2027 BRZ tS starts at $38,770 plus $1,245 destination, according to Subaru's June pricing release. The company still hasn't priced the 2027 WRX lineup.
Last year's premiums over the tS were small. The GD25's added hardware makes it less likely the sedan follows that pattern, though that's our reading, not Subaru's. Either way, both cars stay manual-only, which keeps them on a shrinking list of new cars you can still buy with a stick.
