The 2027 Honda Civic Type R Gets More Aggressive Aero, Heated Seats and a $49,990 Sticker
Honda's manual-only hot hatch adds a sharper nose, retuned +R damping, heated seats, and Google built-in, with a price now $10 shy of $50,000.

Honda's refreshed 2027 Civic Type R reaches dealers this month at $48,695, or $49,990 once the $1,295 destination charge is added. That is $1,300 more than the 2026 car's last list price. The money buys a reshaped nose, chassis and pedal tweaks, heated front seats, and Google built-in, but no additional horsepower.
The six-speed manual stays, and it is still the only gearbox on offer. That keeps the Type R on our list of every new car you can still buy with a manual, and Honda says it is the only car in its class sold exclusively with three pedals.
The price climb is steep for a mid-cycle update. Honda launched the 2026 Type R at $46,895 in January, then raised it to $47,395 on May 1 with a $1,195 destination fee. The 2027 sticker sits $1,800 above that January figure, and with destination up $100, the total suggested price rises $1,400 in five months. Add a premium paint color, a $455 option, and the bill passes $50,000.
Most of the visible change is up front. According to Honda's announcement, a new fascia with a larger grille opening and a deeper splitter adds downforce and smooths airflow to cool the engine better on track. A new color, Meteorite Gray Metallic, joins Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Championship White.

The chassis work is subtle. Damping in the +R drive mode has been retuned to cut bouncing and impact harshness, Rev Match now blips the throttle faster on downshifts, and a yoke spring in the brake pedal linkage removes play for a firmer, more direct pedal. Honda still quotes 315 hp from the turbocharged K20C engine built at its Anna, Ohio, plant, and its list of 2027 changes includes no power increase. EPA ratings hold at 22 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined.

Inside, the cabin moves closer to its price. The red sport seats are heated for the first time, and their suede-like upholstery gets new perforations with black striping. Ultrasuede now covers the upper dashboard and front door panels. The shift knob, door handles, and console trim switch to a darker gray finish.

The tech list grows too. Google built-in arrives with Maps, Google Play, and the Gemini assistant, alongside Alexa built-in and two new USB-C ports. Honda Sensing adds Post-Collision Braking, designed to limit damage in multi-impact crashes, and its emergency braking gets better at spotting motorcycles and bicycles.
Rivals hedge their bets on the clutch pedal. Toyota's 300-hp GR Corolla, priced from $39,920 before destination at launch, offers an eight-speed automatic alongside its manual, and Hyundai sells the Elantra N with an optional dual-clutch. Honda's own Acura Integra Type S is the other manual-only model in the family, listed at $53,900 for 2026.
Honda calls the Type R America's best-selling hot hatch. Its footing outside the US is shakier: Carscoops reports the car has already been dropped in Europe because of tighter emissions rules, something Honda's US release does not address.
The 2027 model marks 30 years since the first Type R, a 1997 Japanese-market car, and a decade in North America. It tops a Civic range whose everyday versions we put head to head in our Honda Civic vs. Toyota Corolla comparison. Honda hasn't said how many 2027 Type Rs US dealers will receive.
