Rivian R2 Finally Gets a Second Interior — and the Forest Green Paint It Promised in March
Both options were on the spec sheet since March but missing from the order form. Coastal Cloud stays off the Standard trim, and Rivian still isn't quoting prices.
Three months after the first R2s reached customers, Rivian has opened ordering on two of the options it held back at launch: Forest Green paint, offered across the whole R2 range, and the light Coastal Cloud Signature interior, restricted to the Performance and Premium trims.
Both now appear in the R2 configurator, Rivian said Tuesday, where buyers can spec them alongside the existing wheel and finish choices. A footnote warns that availability of colors and interiors can still differ by trim, configuration, and market, so shoppers outside the US should check their local build page.
Forest Green is one of Rivian's established colors, already familiar from the R1, rather than a new mix. On the R2, Rivian pitches it as a deep metallic green with enough flake to shift between highlights and shadow as the light changes, a shade the company says works as well in a driveway as at a trailhead.
Coastal Cloud Signature is the more consequential addition. Since deliveries began, every R2 has left the factory with the dark Black Crater Signature cabin. The new option swaps that for a pale, cool-toned palette with upcycled birch trim and textile accents, and Rivian says the cabin uses a second-generation version of its Adventex material that wipes clean after a muddy or sandy outing.
The company also argues a lighter cabin plays to the R2's packaging: the side glass angles outward, the beltline sits low, and a panoramic glass roof runs overhead, all of which make a mid-size interior read larger than it is. Rivian isn't offering Coastal Cloud on the entry-level Standard trim, which keeps the plainer Black Crater interior.
Promised in March, live in September
None of this is a surprise on paper. When Rivian published full R2 trims and pricing on March 11, Forest Green was already listed as an option on Performance, Premium, and Standard, and Coastal Cloud Signature as an option on the two upper trims. The full palette runs to eight colors: Esker Silver as the no-cost default, the R2-specific Catalina Cove and Half Moon Grey, plus Midnight, Glacier White, Forest Green, Borealis, and the Launch Package–only Launch Green.
What changed is availability. When the configurator went live in mid-May, InsideEVs reported that Forest Green wouldn't arrive until late 2026, that Coastal Cloud would be a $1,000 upgrade unlocked "later this year," and that Borealis, a Performance-only purple, was pushed to 2027. Any paint other than Esker Silver was listed at $1,000 to $2,000.
Today's announcement doesn't restate those prices, and Rivian hasn't said whether the configurator figures from May still apply. It also hasn't given a delivery window for cars built in the new color or with the new interior, or confirmed timing for Canada and Europe.
The timing tracks the broader R2 rollout. Deliveries started on June 9 with the $57,990 Performance with Launch Package, the only build orderable so far; the $53,990 Premium is due late this year and the $48,490 Standard in the first half of 2027. With Forest Green and Coastal Cloud now open, Borealis is the last announced option still missing from the order sheet.
