Corolla Cross Hybrid Loses Its Base Trim — and Now Starts at $31,415
Toyota has cut the entry-level Hybrid S for 2027, so every Corolla Cross Hybrid now gets blind-spot monitoring and wireless charging. Gas models carry over with a $900 bump.

The cheapest way into a Corolla Cross Hybrid just got more expensive. For 2027, Toyota has dropped the entry-level S grade, leaving the SE and XSE, and the hybrid now starts at $31,415 before destination.
That matters more than a routine trim shuffle. With RAV4 Hybrid supply still tight, Toyota dealers have been pointing waiting customers toward the smaller hybrid, as we noted in our guide to RAV4 wait times and alternatives. Those shoppers now land on a better-equipped but pricier starting point.

What changes, and what doesn't
When the 2026 Corolla Cross went on sale, the Hybrid S started at $28,995. The new hybrid floor sits $2,420 above that launch figure. In exchange, every hybrid now includes items the S went without: blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a Qi wireless charger, four USB-C ports, roof rails, a rear wiper, and a leather-wrapped wheel with paddle shifters.
The gas model keeps all three grades. The L FWD now starts at $25,535, which is $900 more than its 2026 launch price. Toyota says the rest carries over: a 169-hp 2.0-liter four with a CVT and a physical first gear, a choice of FWD or AWD, and a 1,500-pound towing limit. One small step back: Toyota now quotes 31 mpg combined for the FWD gas model, one less than it claimed for 2026. AWD gas versions are rated at 30 mpg combined.

The hybrid still pairs a 2.0-liter engine with three electric motors for 196 hp combined, per Toyota's 2026 specifications. A rear motor makes all-wheel drive standard, and both grades share a 46/39/42 mpg city/highway/combined estimate. If you're weighing how much that rear motor helps in winter, our AWD vs. 4WD vs. winter tires explainer covers what actually makes the difference.

How it stacks up
Even without the S, the Corolla Cross Hybrid undercuts Subaru's closest rival. The Crosstrek Sport Hybrid, also all-wheel drive, launched at $33,995 for 2026. That is $2,580 more than the Corolla Cross Hybrid SE.
The SE makes do with an 8-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch gauge display. The XSE moves up to a 10.5-inch screen, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, SofTex upholstery, and 18-inch black wheels.

There's also a quieter cut in the fine print. Toyota's release lists ToyotaCare complimentary maintenance at one year or 10,000 miles, down from two years or 25,000 miles on the 2026 model. On the other side of the ledger, the company says the LE, SE, XLE, and XSE now include a five-year Remote Connect trial, up from one year.
When it arrives
Toyota expects 2027 Corolla Cross models at U.S. dealers this fall. The crossover is entering its sixth year in the lineup, part of a Corolla family that marked 60 years this year. Toyota hasn't explained why it dropped the S grade, and the release doesn't list the 2027 destination charge.
