The 2027 Subaru Outback Is Cheaper Almost Everywhere — and the Base Model Is $2,000 Less
A new $32,995 entry trim opens the lineup, five other versions drop by $770 to $1,900, and the Premium holds its price.

Subaru is moving the Outback’s price in the opposite direction from most of the industry. The 2027 lineup opens with a new base trim at $32,995, which is $2,000 below the cheapest 2026 Outback, and five of the other six versions now cost less than they did a year ago.
It’s the same move Subaru made a month ago with the 2027 Impreza’s $2,000-cheaper entry model, and the new Outback base trim isn’t a stripped-out price leader. Subaru says it comes with the 12.1-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, EyeSight driver assistance, heated front seats, a power liftgate, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. It uses the 180-hp 2.5-liter boxer four with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive, and it can tow up to 2,700 pounds when properly equipped.
2027 Outback prices, trim by trim
Here’s how each MSRP compares with 2026, based on Subaru’s 2027 pricing announcement. All figures exclude destination.
- Outback (new base): $32,995 — no 2026 equivalent
- Premium: $34,995 — unchanged
- Limited: $39,995 — down $1,720
- Touring: $43,495 — down $1,900
- Limited XT: $43,595 — down $770
- Wilderness: $43,995 — down $1,000
- Touring XT: $46,595 — down $1,400
Destination and delivery climbs to $1,545 from the $1,450 Subaru charged when it priced the 2026 Outback. That $95 increase trims every cut slightly and makes the unchanged Premium a little more expensive once it’s added. With destination, the new base car comes to $34,540.

Where the value shifts
The cuts also reshuffle the middle of the range. The turbocharged Limited XT, with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft, now costs only $100 more than the non-turbo Touring, and for 2027 it gets Highway Hands-Free Assist, Emergency Stop Assist, and automatic lane changes as standard.
The Wilderness offers the hands-free system too, but only in a $5,090 package that also bundles Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, a moonroof, navigation, and a surround-view camera. Fully optioned, a Wilderness comes to $49,085 before destination, the same as the priciest 2026 Wilderness configuration in Subaru’s price list.
The new entry price also narrows the gap to Subaru’s smaller SUV. The 2027 Forester starts at $29,995, putting the base Outback $3,000 above it.
Jalopnik went further and called the new base Outback the cheapest all-wheel-drive midsize SUV on sale. Midsize rivals with standard AWD do start well higher: Honda’s 2027 Passport begins at $45,195 in RTL form.
What Subaru hasn’t said yet
The 2027 Outback is built in Gunma, Japan, and Subaru says it reaches U.S. retailers later this year, without giving a date. EPA fuel-economy ratings for the 2027 model haven’t been published. Three colors are new to the Outback: Sand Dune Pearl, Daybreak Blue Pearl, and the all-new Snowfall White Silica. Sand Dune Pearl and Geyser Blue are limited to the Wilderness, and premium paints add $395.
